Australian expat tax return
preparation & lodgement.

Australian expat tax return preparation is rarely simple - and the cost of getting it wrong is rarely small. When you've earned income, owned assets or lived across multiple countries, getting the return right requires far more than simply entering numbers into a form.

§ 01

Who this is for.

A cross-border return is a different animal from a domestic one. Foreign-sourced income, foreign income tax offsets, capital gains across jurisdictions, part-year residency apportionment and the schedules that go with them all have to line up - and they have to line up with the position you've taken on residency and on your treaty.

We prepare Australian returns for residents, non-residents and part-year taxpayers who have a foreign dimension to their affairs. If your situation is genuinely straightforward, we'll tell you - and point you to a cheaper way to lodge.

§ 02

What this covers.

01

Foreign income and FITO done properly

Foreign salary, investments, rent and pensions converted, characterised and offset correctly - so you're not taxed twice and not exposed where the offset doesn't fully cover.

02

Part-year residency apportionment

The year you move is the hardest return you'll ever file. Income split by residency period, thresholds pro-rated, the right rates applied to each slice.

03

CGT across borders

Australian and offshore assets, deemed disposals, the discount where it survives, and cost-base resets on a change of residency - all reconciled in one return.

04

Treaty positions, defended in writing in your return

Where a treaty changes the outcome, we document the article relied on and the reasoning and we include that position in your return - so the position stands up if it's ever questioned.

05

Non-resident withholding and rates

No tax-free threshold, different rates, and withholding on Australian-sourced income that has to be claimed or reconciled correctly.

06

Behind on lodgement

Multiple outstanding years, often with a residency question tangled through them. We bring you up to date and right the record without drama.

§ 03

How we help.

01 / 05

Resident, non-resident & part-year returns

Whatever your status for the year - including the messy year it changed - prepared to match your documented position.

02 / 05

Foreign income & offset schedules

FITO, foreign rent, investment and pension income handled in full, with the working retained.

03 / 05

CGT & investment schedules

Australian and offshore disposals, the discount, and every associated schedule reconciled.

04 / 05

Treaty position write-ups

Where it matters, the article and reasoning documented within your return.

05 / 05

Catch-up lodgement

Outstanding years brought current, penalties and interest managed where we can.

Three years of returns, two countries, RSUs and a property in the mix - filed cleanly, with the treaty positions written down. Worth every cent.
